Cross Sectional Imaging is a discipline of radiology that encompasses the use of a number of advanced imaging techniques that feature in common the ability to image the body in cross section.  This discipline typically focuses on the diagnosis and characterization of abnormalities of chest, abdomen, and pelvis.  The scope of the discipline is broad and ranges from the assessment of emergency conditions and trauma to the detection and follow up of malignancies.

Primary imaging modalities include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound.
